Abstract

With the new millennium has come a new term, "globalization," with its increasing interconnection of people and places. With it come advances in transport, communication, and information technologies that cause political, economic, and cultural convergence. In practice, globalization leads to "gentrification" with its urban renewal and rebuilding of inner city communities. This article will seek to raise discussion concerning the gentrification of urban areas, and the challenges community health providers, advocates and organizers face as they seek to build community resilience through improved health equity, health care access, health promotion, health education and disease prevention.
